Shawn Shieh on his Chinese NGOs blog in late November discussed Sichuan NGOs and mentioned the new project to update the China Development Brief’s directory of Chinese NGOs. The China Development Brief was a great source of information on NGOs but faded out when its director Nick Young’s visa was not renewed in 2008. After a half-year or so the Chinese language side of the website, the Zhongguo Fazhan Jianbao, began to revive. It is now very active and has begun doing translations of materials from the Chinese language side into English.

My travels to visit NGOs in Sichuan
I realize it’s been a while since I’ve posted. China Development Brief just started a new project involving the updating of the Chinese NGO Directory that was last done in 2001. Much has changed since then, and the number of NGOs has grown rapidly, so we thought it was high time for a new directory. This one will focus on the more independent, grassroots, public interest NGOs, unlike the old one which included a number of GONGOs.
